Public university students
Public university students can access abortion care like anyone else. They also have access at their student health center.
Student health centers on California State University or University of California campuses must offer medication abortion. This helps make abortion as accessible and cost effective as possible for students.

Public university student rights
California works to ensure anyone who wants an abortion has access as easy and as early as possible. Public university students have the same legal rights to abortion as anyone else in California.
In California, abortion care is:
- A constitutional right
- Part of comprehensive sexual and reproductive health care
- A basic health service that Medi-Cal and private, state-regulated insurance plans must cover
- A recognized treatment for pregnancy
Student health centers can’t discuss your care with someone else without your consent.
If you’re on someone else’s health insurance, you can take steps to keep your abortion care private. Check with your university to find out if you have to use your health insurance to get care.
